The EPOC 2030–2050 project united over 400 researchers from 14 Belgian institutions to develop integrated energy models, providing policymakers with data-driven insights for Belgium’s energy transition. The initiative aimed to identify cost-effective pathways for reducing greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring a reliable energy supply and controlling consumer costs. By linking various models—such as techno-economic, market, and transport models—the project addressed challenges like the integration of renewable energy sources, electrification of heating and transport, and the need for grid flexibility. This collaborative effort supported informed decision-making for a sustainable and cost-effective energy future in Belgium and ran from July 1, 2018 until July 1, 2023.
