It has been a tradition for over 15 years to organize an HVDC colloquium, a 2–3 day workshop for researchers in the field of HVDC and offshore wind technology.
This event originated from the original European project MEDOW consortium. The founding members are UPC Barcelona, DTU Copenhagen, Cardiff University, Imperial College London, the University of Porto, and KU Leuven. This colloquium has offered both young and more experienced researchers the opportunity to present their work, engage in discussions, and network with their peers. It has been characterized by an open and informal atmosphere, where junior and senior researchers (including professors!) actively attend and participate.
This tradition has been very successful, and many researchers have fond memories of both the technical and non‑technical discussions.
This year, we are pleased to welcome Oriol Gomis (UPC) and Nicolò Cutululis (DTU) as the scientific committee. This edition is not only open to the traditional HVDC colloquium members but also to a broader audience.
We would therefore like to invite you and the researchers in your team to join us for the upcoming HVDC colloquium, which will be held in Leuven, Belgium, from 18–20 March 2026.

Practical information: abstracts
Templates and formatting
-
Authors may submit a 1 page abstract (or extended abstract) prepared in single column A4 format. Templates are available here: MS Word and LaTeX. Authors may adapt the section titles and the number of sections as appropriate. Tables and figures may be included, where relevant.
-
The abstracts will be collected and shared, and no full paper is required.
-
A presenter biography should be submitted separately from the abstract and is not included in the 1 page limit. Authors are requested to provide a single paragraph biography of no more than 200 words. Submission of a photograph is recommended. All presenter biographies will be compiled and included at the end of the conference booklet.
Topics
- HVDC technology advancements (converters, DC breakers, DC cables)
- HVDC control and protection
- Power systems with HVDC and FACTS
- Development of future power systems
- Largescale RES deployment (including offshore wind)
Submission and evaluation
- We welcome not only well developed ideas (e.g., typical conference or journal style work), but also other forms of contributions such as open discussions, emerging concepts, or challenges posed to the research community.
- We aim to have a balanced mix of experienced and junior researchers, with dedicated time for presentations and discussion in a singletrack setup.
- Every effort will be made to offer presentation opportunities to as many interested researchers as possible; however, due to time limitations, a selection procedure may be necessary. In such a case, the submitted abstracts will be evaluated based on originality and novelty, technical quality, clarity and structure, and overall impact.
- A Best Paper Award in honor of Helder Leite will be given during the colloquium.
- Interested researchers should send an email with a 1page abstract and biography to Dr. ehsan.kazemi [at] kuleuven.be (Ehsan Kazemi-Robati) (ehsan.kazemi [at] kuleuven.be (ehsan[dot]kazemi[at]kuleuven[dot]be)).
