This webinar presents the Z-tool, an open-source Python package for the small-signal stability analysis of power systems in the Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) software PSCAD. Unlike built-in routines in commercial EMT programs, the Z-tool automatically scans any admittance from both the AC and DC sides, including multi-terminal networks, capturing the dynamic characteristics of power converters and rotating machines together with their controls. In addition, several functions allow the user to effortlessly perform state-of-the-art frequency-domain stability analysis to de-risk modern power systems. Following an introduction to the Z-tool’s working principle and built-in features, two case-studies are reviewed demonstrating its capabilities for small-signal interactions analyses.
